Vanessa Bryant honored her husband Kobe Bryant and their daughter Gianna "Gigi" Bryant on the first anniversary of their death. She shared a heartfelt letter she received from one of Gigi's best friends

On January 26, Vanessa Bryant took to Instagram to mark the anniversary of the tragic deaths of her husband Kobe Bryant and their teenage daughter Gianna "Gigi" Bryant, sharing a touching letter she received from one of Gianna's best friends. Aubrey Callaghan. A 38-year-old woman who is also the mother of daughters Natalia, 18, Bianca, 4, and Capri (20 months), wrote an emotional caption next to her post:

“Today I received this sweet letter from one of Gianna's best friends, Aubrey. I love you, Obz (as my Gigi would call you), - Vanessa began in the signature. “Thank you so much for sharing with me some of your wonderful memories of my Gigi and allowing me to share them here on my ig.”

She continued, “My Gigi is INCREDIBLE and I truly appreciate this letter. She loves you so much. I also really miss my girl and Kobe. I will never understand why and how this tragedy could happen to such beautiful, kind and amazing people. It still doesn't seem real. Cob, we did everything right. Gigi, you still make Mom proud. I love you!" Vanessa completed her post using the hashtags “#PlayGigisWay”, “#Mambacita”, “#Mamba”, “#DaddysGirl” and “#GirlDad”.

In the letter, Callaghan wrote about her friendship with Janna and praised the late young athlete for "giving her a push to get better." She continued to praise Vanessa as a mother and said she hoped her future daughters would be "just like Vanessa."

Later in the letter, Callaghan wrote: “Sometimes I get desperate, thinking about her and what she could achieve if she had at least a couple more years. But lately I've been thinking about what she left on this earth. Her fight for equality in sports has forced the world to rethink its opinions, she set the wheels in motion with Mr. Bryant,”she continued. “But at a lower level, on behalf of every person who met her, I can say that she changed our lives.”

At the end of the letter, Callaghan told Vanessa that she "did the right thing" about Gianna's upbringing. "I am so happy that I was able to spend time with your angel - daughter, and thank you for giving me such a chance," she said, adding: "I love you and think of you as we remember her short life."

On the morning of January 26, 2020, Kobe, Gianna and seven other people, including Sarah and Payton Chester, Christina Mauser, John Altobelli, his wife Keri Altobelli and their daughter Alyssa Altobelli, died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on its way to a youth basketball game. Pilot Ara Zobayan also died in a plane crash.
