Valerie Bertinelli is still grieving the loss of ex-husband Eddie Van Halen, who died in October at the age of 65 after years of battling cancer.
Sharing the recipes on Monday on the Today edition of the show, the 60-year-old actress was flustered when co-host Hoda Kotb asked how she's been holding up since the death of legendary guitarist Van Halen.
“It was hard,” Bertinelli said, crying. "Very bitter."
Bertinelli then spoke about herself and Eddie's 29-year-old son, Wolfgang, with whom she spent the holidays.
“We're fine,” she said. “I'll see him later today. We spent a lot of time together."
When a cute photo of the family appeared on the screen, Bertinelli said, "Ouch."
“It’s difficult… I sent Eddie a message dozens of times,” she recalled. “It was like, 'Oh no, I can't write to him right now.'
Before moving on to the recipes, Bertinelli thanked co-host Carson Daly for the "excellent" Today interview he had with Wolfgang in November.
Bertinelli and Eddie tied the knot in 1981 and were married for over 20 years before breaking up in 2001 and divorcing in 2007. They were on good terms at the time of his death, and Eddie attended Bertinelli's wedding to her current husband, Tom Vitale.
Hours after Wolfgang announced Eddie's death on Twitter on October 6, Bertinelli issued a statement of her own.
“40 years ago, my life was forever changed when I met you,” she tweeted next to an old family photo. "You gave me the only true light in my life, our son Wolfgang."
