Dior Fashion House celebrated its 73rd anniversary yesterday, December 16th. This is a huge term for a company that is gaining momentum every day, and a popular brand is recognized all over the world. In honor of this event, we decided to tell you how the company was built year after year.
At the age of 14, Christian Dior stumbled upon a gypsy woman who predicted a great future for him. At that time, the young boy laughed when he heard the following words: "Women will bring you good luck and thanks to them you will become a very wealthy man." And these words came true after some time.
Christian did not create his own empire. At the initial stages, he was helped by the famous businessman Marcel Boussac. The man noticed talent and a thirst for work in Christian, so he became his first investor. He rented a building on Avenue Montaigne on his own and helped set up a workshop.
The guy released his first collection in 1947. At that time, people were so depressed by the consequences of the war that they did not notice anything good around them. However, Christian's collection delighted them, and thus he made his name famous. His first line of clothing was exclusively for women: gorgeous dresses, fluffy skirts, and all this was sewn exclusively from expensive beautiful fabrics. In that moment, he was able to remind women how beautiful they can be.
After such a success, Dior remembered the gypsy's prophecy, found her and shared his impressions. He even admitted that from now on he would not do anything without the consent of this madam.
For the next 10 years, Christian dictated fashion to the whole world. They began to consider him the most important master, and the motto of his Fashion House sounded like this: "Treat dresses like living beings and not turn your business into another production that churns out a mass product." In a short time, his company had more than 2,000 employees.
Unfortunately, at the age of 53, Christian Dior left this world. He died in Italy of a heart attack. His great company was left without the most important leader, and then all the professionals predicted bankruptcy and complete destruction to the House of Dior. However, Christian's assistants managed to save the empire, among whom was none other than Yves Saint Laurent.
At that time, Laurent was only 21 years old, but he was so in love with his work that the first collection, which was released after the death of Christian, aroused genuine interest among all those present. Yves worked at the Dior fashion house until the moment when his next clothing line became a failure. After this shame, he left his workplace.
John Galliano decided to continue Christian's business; he is still the chief creative director of the empire. The company is in its prime. The number of employees exceeds 76,000 people, and the annual cash turnover is over 20 billion euros.
