Kate Middleton visited a very special place.

The royal took her husband, Prince William, to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, the hospital where she was born almost 39 years ago, as they completed one of the last stops of their Royal Railroad tour of the UK.

The couple headed to a hospital near where Kate grew up in Bucklebury on Tuesday afternoon to meet with midwives and nurses to thank them for their "tireless work" during the coronavirus pandemic, their office at Kensington Palace said.

For Kate and Prince William, the baking team behind The Great British Bake Off has a surprise: they sent a cake to the hospital to celebrate the contributions of key employees to the ongoing fight against coronavirus.

William and Kate were also shown a special badge that was designed by Head Nurse Rafael Fernandez with funding from NHS Charities Together to commemorate the Year of Nurse and Midwife in 2020.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge began their 1250-mile journey across Britain on Sunday. Tuesday, their last day, kicked off in Wales with a Christmas festivities - hot chocolate, Santa's gift exchange and fried marshmallows (which William burned!).

“William was too busy talking to us, and he managed to burn his marshmallow, and Kate was a little confused in the glove, and they made fun of each other, which was good to see,” - said 21-year-old Lily Faulkner, student of the Department of Politics and International relations of Cardiff University
