Lee McSweeney celebrated the anniversary of her sobriety: one year without alcohol.
The Real Housewives of New York star posted a message on her Instagram to commemorate the day, sharing a screenshot from the Twelve Steps page showing she was sober for a year.
“365 days without drink. Thank you, Supreme,”she began in the caption to the post, before explaining why she drank last season of RHONY, her first on the show.
“People often ask me if I quit drinking because they saw me drunk on TV,” wrote the 38-year-old woman.
“I quit drinking a couple of days before the show aired. I am also often asked if I drank before, or if I started drinking before showing up on the show, since I was quitting almost a decade ago. And the truth is, I started drinking before I knew I was going to be at RHONY."
She continued, “When I found out that I was actually going to be on the show, I thought to myself that maybe now is a good time to quit drinking again, but it was too difficult and I was not ready in the end. … I just started over and wanted to "have fun." I have always known that alcoholism and drug addiction have stigma, but I didn’t realize how terrible stigma was, especially for women, until the show aired.”
