Two beauties and title holders in a prestigious competition have lost their crowns at once! Why did Miss Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea lose their achievements?
Miss Papua New Guinea scandal
The crown for first place and the honor of representing her country in the prestigious Miss World competition was given to 25-year-old model Lucy Maino. However, her jubilation did not last so long. A couple of weeks later, she was stripped of her crown and title for the most common video on the TikTok social network. The girl posted a video on her page in which she dances a modern dance twerk. Subscribers reacted very negatively to the Miss Papua New Guinea's candid dancing, leaving thousands of bad comments. Lucy realized that such a dance was superfluous, so after a few hours she deleted the video, but this did not change anything. The competition committee reacted with lightning speed, commenting on this behavior inappropriate. So Maino lost her status and crown. The committee withdrew the title, stating that a girl dancing twerk could not be a role model in their country.
Moreover, certain responsibilities were imposed on Lucy after she won this competition. The girl automatically became the ambassador of her country in cultural development, and also represented the interests of the women of New Guinea at the world conference. The given duties were also awarded to another person. As the judges of the competition explained, the main purpose of such events is “the cultural heritage of the country and the maintenance of traditions,” and Lucy's behavior does not meet the stated requirements.
The former owner of the crown "Miss Papua New Guinea" decided not to be silent, she said that the people who stripped her of the title, once again emphasized their misogyny inherent in their country. Lucy Maino has protested and is no longer posting any photos or videos on her social media pages.
“For some reason, I'm 100% sure that if a male representative decided to create a page in TikTok, then everyone would laugh at him and even praise him.” - wrote Lucy.
Scandal with Miss Sri Lanka
The events that happened to Miss Sri Lanka can be called more dramatic and unfair. The shame that the winner of the competition, Pushipka De Silva, had to endure, happened immediately on the stage when the results were announced. Previous Miss Sri Lanka winner Caroline Jura took the stage to hand over her title to her new title holder. However, Jura decided to make her own adjustments to the competition without consulting anyone. She gave her crown to the girl who took second place, and Pushipka was left with nothing. Caroline commented on her decision, stating that De Silva is divorced, and this is prohibited by the rules of the competition. It is still clear where the woman got this information from, but the unpleasant feelings that Pushipka had to experience caused a very violent reaction in her.
The deserved winner left the stage with tears in her eyes, and a little later announced that she was not going to leave her insult unpunished. Pushipka promised that she would sue Caroline Jura and win this case.
A little later, the organizers of the competition apologized for Caroline's behavior, admitting that such decisions are not made with lightning speed and without warning. They promised that they would return the status and crown to the rightful owner. De Silva gave a short interview in which she explained that she really has a spouse and a legitimate son. However, the relationship with her husband is very tense, so they do not live together, but so far they are not going to divorce.
